This week Nicola Sturgeon has used the EU referendum’s outcome as an excuse to try and drag Scotland into a second highly divisive independence referendum. This is despite previously stating the only way Scotland would have a second referendum was if there is clear public appetite – which there undoubtedly isn’t. This is nothing more than political opportunism at its worst and a clear affront to democracy. The Prime Minister has been clear that a referendum cannot happen until the Scottish people have had the chance to see how our new relationship with the European Union is working.
On Thursday I was able to meet women from the Scottish Mesh Survivors Group who explained what it’s like living with the consequences of the adverse effects of Transvaginal Mesh Devices and I was more than happy to sign a pledge supporting their quest for justice.
It is concerning however that there have been reports that another person has resigned from the independent review group that was established by the Scottish Government to look at the safety of mesh implants. The consultant apparently stepped down following the revelation that an entire chapter of the final report had been removed in what looks like a manipulation of evidence.
This week I also held another street surgery in East Kilbride. Street surgeries are where I inform local residents in one area that I will be coming to their street later in the week, and anyone who has an issue they wish to raise with me can signal that they would like for me to stop at their house.
I find that this is an extremely successful way of meeting constituents and helping them with any problems they may have - keep an eye out for my street surgery leaflets coming through your door.
If anyone is interested in being a local election candidate, particularly in North Lanarkshire, then please let me know.
