The SNP have no chance of hitting their car miles reduction target, says Conservative and Unionist MSP Graham Simpson. During a Green Party business debate on the cost of transport yesterday afternoon, Graham Simpson MSP asked the Cabinet Secretary for Transport if the Scottish Government was still committed to their target to reduce car kilometres travelled by 20% by 2030.
Graham Simpson MSP said: "With just five years to go, the Scottish Government has no plan to achieve their car reduction target and we have to assume from Fiona Hyslop's response that the target has been scrapped.
"To achieve the target, car traffic levels would need to decrease by 4.5 billion miles to 18 billion compared to the 2019 baseline. The last time car traffic levels were this low was in 1994.
"That's not going to happen and the government should be honest about that".
