At Public Audit Committee yesterday, Fiona Hyslop told Graham Simpson MSP that the Scottish Government's target to cut car use in Scotland by 20% by 2030 was "not realistic".
When Graham Simpson MSP asked the Cabinet Secretary for Transport if the Scottish Government had dropped their car use reduction target, she confirmed that the 20% target had been dropped and would need to be changed to something more "achievable" and "realistic".
Graham Simpson MSP said: "I'm pleased that Fiona Hyslop has finally seen sense and ditched the Scottish Government's target to reduce car use by 20% in the next five years.
"The SNP Government had no chance of hitting this unrealistic target in the first place.
"Their focus should now be on improving public transport and making achievable progress towards emissions reduction from the transport sector."
