Scottish Conservative candidate Graham Simpson for Central Scotland is backing plans that would ensure South Lanarkshire Council is guaranteed a fair funding deal.
Mr. Simpson says the proposals unveiled by Scottish Conservative party leader Douglas Ross at their virtual conference would put an end to year after year of SNP Government underfunding of local authorities.
The plans by the Scottish Conservatives would ensure it is in law that Scotland’s councils are guaranteed a set fraction of the Scottish Government budget each year.
Mr. Simpson says that the SNP have continued to slash local Government budgets over their 13 years in charge which has meant vital public services have suffered.
Mr. Simpson added that the Scottish Conservatives are committed to rebuilding communities in Central Scotland rather than the SNP’s focus on another divisive independence referendum.
Commenting, Scottish Conservative candidate Mr. Simpson said: “Year after year, the SNP have slashed local authority budgets, which has meant vital services have suffered in South Lanarkshire.
“The proposals from the Scottish Conservatives would guarantee South Lanarkshire Council would get a fair funding deal and put an end to the cuts.
“We need to focus on rebuilding our communities in South Lanarkshire and delivering high quality public services that local people need.
“For too long, the SNP Government have focused on a divisive independence referendum, rather than delivering fair funding for South Lanarkshire.”
