Our local family doctor IS the NHS for many of us. If we don’t act now there is a real danger that our much-loved institution will need intensive care treatment itself.
NHS Lanarkshire has been given the go-ahead to develop an outline business case (OBC) to rebuild or refurbish Monklands Hospital. This is a welcome and long-awaited development. It is imperative that the process to identify a site for a new Monklands – be it the existing site or a new one – starts as a soon as possible and that we have clarity well before the next Scottish Parliament election.
I’ve seen nothing that convinces me that there is any merit in dualling this road. It will cause massive disruption for those living nearby – indeed for the whole of East Kilbride and as someone who lives in the area it strikes me as being totally unnecessary.
